Sound Pure's Take
It makes sense that this was Preston's first design--this 0000, in many ways, can accomplish much of what several differents bodystyles can along with a lot that it alone can offer. The balance, sensitivity, and comfort of a smaller guitar is met equally with the power, presence, and force of a larger instrument. Certainly not a direct copy of the Martins quads we all know and love either--that slightly different curvature to the upper bout seems to have graced PT's model with an airiness and fullness that eludes other Martin and Martin inspired guitars out there. And what a look, too--the fretboard inlay and tuners play perfectly against that uncommonly straight grained set of EIR on the back and sides. One in a million!
From Preston Thompson Guitars
The 0000 or as it was originally called here at Thompson Guitars, the T-1, was the first guitar body shape drawn and built by Preston while he attended the School of Guitar Research and Design. Many of the very first Thompson Guitars were 0000’s and are known for their bigger 16” lower bout guitar tone and excellent balance.
Our 0000 model offers the approximate volume of a Dreadnought but is a very comfortable instrument to play because of the tighter waist and narrower body depth. If you’re looking for an instrument with the power of a larger guitar with the sweet tone of an OM or 000, this is a model you might want to consider. Responsive, articulate and powerful the 0000 is hard to beat as an all-round wonderful guitar.
The 0000 model guitars come standard with a 25.4” scale and are available with any of our back and side tonewood selections. Tonewoods include Mahogany, East Indian Rosewood, Cuban Mahogany, Panama Rosewood, 5A Brazilian and Shipwreck/Salvaged Brazilian Rosewood. The finest grade Adirondack Spruce tops are standard but other soundboards may be substituted, including our new Alaska Barge Sitka. A rare find, these Sitka tops were harvested after the wood was submerged in salt-water for decades. This unique wood has been cured to a beautiful tone and appearance, some with a distinct blue-gray color.
